Gearing up for Thursday night at the Good Hurt

As you may know, we're going to be playing the Good Hurt Nightclub in Los Angeles this Thursday, February 2 at 10:30pm.  We're excited to be playing for our hometown fans in this venue.

(Here's the Facebook event page for this show.)

A little bit of background on our lineup:

Keyboard wizard and vocalist Joanna Ellis will be sharing the mic with Chloe.  We're also very lucky to have the jazz bassist and DJ John von Seggern (of Simplexity and Vibration Institute) holding down the lower end frequencies.  On the drumkit we have Est Nyboer (formerly of Afrobeat sensation Najite & Olukun Prophecy) and on percussion we have Jason Kadlec of Afro-Mystik (OM Records).

We've been having a blast rehearsing and we're looking forward to the show. Hope to see you there!

Billie Jean Demo - MJ gets the credit

We've been working on a variety of new Quincy Jones-esque tunes and inevitably Billie Jean came up.  Imagine my surprise when I dug up MJ's original home demo for the tune.  This was done with the Jackson brothers in their home studio, without any assistance from Jones.  All of the elements are there— the bassline, the synth stabs, even the brilliant rhythm guitar bits.  MJ is ad libbing the vocals, but it's not hard to see where this is headed.  I don't think Jones can really take credit for arranging this— it's fully baked as-is.

Pesos will play Bali Spirit Fest 2012

We are proud to announce that we will be appearing at the Bali Spirit Festival this March.  It's an honor to play on the same stage that has hosted diverse artists like Michael Franti, Cheb I Sabbah, Mamadou Diabate, and many others.

In addition to being a world-class music festival, BSF also offers an incredible selection of yoga and dance workshops in an idyllic setting.  Learn more here, and stay tuned for more live dates this winter.  We hope to see you there!

I Want My MTV

The good folks at Pitchfork have an excerpt from the new book by Craig Marks and Rob Tannenbaum about the early days of MTV.  The book seems pretty entertaining, but it's probably even better if you read it with YouTube ready to go on your laptop.

DARYL HALLHall & Oates: Videos began to attract wannabe Cecil B. DeMilles, who had almost unlimited budgets and did whatever they felt like. "Adult Education" is a perfect example. We brought in a director I didn't know [Tim Pope], who was newly hot. He didn't have a clue what to do with the song. The plot? I couldn't tell you. It's some sort of primitive de-virginizing ritual. Everybody was dressed in kind of faux primitive war paint, John Oates shook some kind of magical stick, and there was a virgin laying on a table. That's all I know.

Rehearsals are well underway

Believe it or not, this is just half the band.  By the time everyone's in there, it looks like a crowded elevator.

We're gearing up for some live performances in the very near future.  More details coming soon...

Location scouting

We're currently doing test shoots for our next video, "Coda."  In contrast to the watery themes of our Regresando video, "Coda" will feature desert locations.

We're about 99% locked on a new location.  Coincidentally it served as the backdrop for one of the most infamous Star Trek episodes:

Pesos + KXLU

Big ups to Ameet (aka Part Time Chiller) and Mystic Pete for showing us the love on KXLU 88.9 FM last night. It's always a thrill to make the playlist on such a great station.

Never Tear Us Apart (cover) by Love in the Circus

Our friends LITC just dropped this track off and it's worth checking out.  That late 80's synth cello has morphed nicely into a throbbing dubstep pattern here!

"I don't want to watch a band lip-synch."

Behind the scenes video on the latest work from TV on the Radio.  On the topic of performing on film as a lip-synching musician: "It couldn't be more boring or more embarrassing... I'll never do it again."

Green onions for you

Love the smoking live cut of this track. Check out that Hammond Organ!  Thanks to this article, we learned that the song is in fact named after a cat, not some illegal substance.
